Get a frayed garage door cable replaced as soon as possible
Fraying is an indicator that the cable will break soon. When this happens, the door will get jammed and may hang on one side causing damage to the tracks and rollers. To avoid such an accident, act immediately. In general, the cables need close inspection at least two times a year. Watch out for cuts in addition to frayed sections.
Keep the opener's accessories in good condition
Wipe the safety sensors clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth, if needed, and align them to face one another. Use alcohol to clean the remote controls. If there's any rust on the battery contacts, remove it using a mild rust remover or a bit of lemon juice. You can remove gunk around the buttons with a toothpick.
Don’t lubricate the garage door tracks
This will make them slippery and prevent the proper movement of the rollers. Remember that only the moving components of the door should be lubricated. The list includes the rollers, if they are made of metal, hinges and torsion spring. The moving metal parts of the opener (like a chain or a rod) need proper lubrication too.
